Yesterday we celebrated the winter solstice with some window shopping in the city area, a Japanese hotpot dinner at Meshiya Japanese Restaurant, and drinks thereafter at The Atrium Bar on 35 located at The Sofitel Melbourne On Collins. We chose a quiet little corner at The Atrium Bar on 35, next to this brightly lit tree. Isn't it pretty? It looks like a tree covered with snow, very romantic, and definitely in tune with our private mini winter solstice celebration.
We were served some snacks as we waited for our orders. There was kimchi, caramelized popcorn, and mixed nuts. I liked the kimchi & honey bear loved the nuts; the caramelized popcorn was way too soft, not at all crunchy><
I ordered Lychee and Ginger Smash (Belvedere Citrus Vodka + Licor 43 + Fresh Mint Leaves + Lychees + Fresh Lime + Ginger Syrup + Grapefruit Juice) from the Fruity & Fresh Cocktails section of the Cocktail Menu. This cocktail was awesome! The grapefruit juice, lime juice, & mint leaves made this drink very refreshing. I could taste the ginger but it was not overpowering. All the flavours blended in really well. Love!!!
Honey bear had The Classic (Hennessy V.S + Grand Marnier + Angostura Bitters + Sugar Cube) from the Sparkling Cocktails section of the Drinks Menu. This cocktail was nothing like mine; it's really strong; a classic guy's drink.
We also ordered their Antipesto Platter Selection (Marinated Feta Cheese + Salami + Parma Ham + Chorizo + Sundried Tomato + Parmesan-filled Olives). I love olives but not those filled with parmesan because i'm not a cheese lover & definitely NOT parmesan! I prefer olives stuffed with capsicums, yummmms^^
A close up snapshot of the antipesto platter selection we ordered.
Breadsticks + Cumin-seeded crackers, lightly salted.
Before we headed off to The Atrium on 35, we had dinner at Meshiya Japanese Restaurant located at QV.
Plum Wine with Soda (mine) & Plum Wine with Oolong Tea (the honey bear's)
Since it's the winter solstice, we ordered Japanese seafood hotpot (seafood yosenabe)!! Weather was chilly yesterday & in the city area at night, it was 10 degrees, so hotpot was warming & apt for winter^^ (It costs AUD68 & portioned for 2 persons).
Dessert!! Black sesame ice cream & Japanese red bean pancake.
happy winter solstice!

I love the lighted tree, so beautiful & romantic, perfect ambiance. The red bean pancake reminded me of Doraemon, awwww... so cute!
Wow all this food looks amazing!! The first restaurant looks super romantic with a the dim lighting and candles! Wow it's sooo weird that it's winter over there hahahaha!
Oh and regarding your comments about japan, yes! There aren't a lot of people who walk and eat at the same time! My bf and I did that, though we finished our buns before we got onto the train because there's no eating allowed on there! As for the vending machines, I didn't get to see any super interesting ones but I did see some that dispensed hot drinks! The drinks also weren't as costly as you might think!!! haha I wish I knew about the motion sensor thing before I went to Japan!! I was sooo scared when I set it off!!! I hope you're doing well sweetie!
